In the summer time Aucklanders with dogs are restricted when it comes to visiting the beach – in our suburb we can only take Tui for a swim before 10 am or after 6.30 pm.  I guess it makes sense; there are a lot of people on the beach during the day, and some dogs are pretty annoying.  Ordinarily it doesn’t cause us any difficulties, but if high tide coincides with the permitted dog walking times there can be a shortage of sand and a surplus of hounds.  And Tui is like Tui Garbo a lot of the time – she shuns other dogs and just wants to be alone…
