Tui and I hit the road before 7 am for the trip south. We’ve just whiled away 20 minutes on the shores of sunny Lake Taupo:
The next stage of the journey is the mind-numbingly dull Desert Road, where radio signals can’t be picked up and you never see wild horses, despite all the signs urging you to be careful of them. I have a secret weapon today, though (to fight the boredom, not to find the horses): a three CD album called ‘Floor fillers – the ultimate collection’, which I bought in Taupo. Currently playing: My Sharona. Outstanding!
